Despite the plethora of information that is out there in regard to GMO foods, or more accurately labeled GE foods, I am amazed by how many people remain either unaware of its very existence or completely misinformed. I don’t want to get into too many specifics of the nature of genetically modified food when there is so much research out there already, although I will provide links for anyone who is curious and am reblogging this informative article through Ariston Organic’s blog. What I find reprehensible is that the U.S. is by far lagging behind other countries in protecting their own citizens from the possible long-term negative effects of a scientific discovery that hasn’t been adequately tested to ensure that it is indeed safe, all in the name of profit. Opponents, realizing that getting rid of GE foods completely would be a practically impossible feat to accomplish, are now attempting to have them be labeled, just like we have data on sodium content, fat content, etc., so that people can make healthy choices. As it stands, this has been an uphill battle and we have far to go. This is supposed to be a free country, and yet we don’t have the freedom to make an educated choice in what we eat? This calls for a massive change.
